• 1 bar Castile soap*
• 5 cups water
• 2 tablespoons dry sage leaves
• 2 tablespoons dry lavender flowers

Grate the bar of soap on a kitchen grater to make 2 ounces (about 1/4 cup) soap shavings, and set aside.

Bring the 5 cups of water to a boil, and then add the sage leaves and lavender flowers.

Stir the herbs briefly, remove the pan from heat and cover with a lid and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain, discarding the herbs, and return the water to boiling.

As soon as the water is boiling, add the 1/4 cup grated Castile soap and stir until dissolved. When nearly cool, whip mixture with an egg beater until fluffy. Scoop into wide-mouth jars or convenient container. To use: dip fingers into shampoo and work into hair.
