Noelle Johnson
Name: Noelle Johnson aka ‘AZ Plant Lady’
Occupation: Horticulturist, Landscape Consultant, Certified Arborist, Garden Writer
Place of Residence: Central Arizona
Background: Noelle Johnson, is a horticulturist, landscape consultant, ISA certified arborist and garden writer who lives and gardens in the desert southwest. Also known as ‘AZ Plant Lady,’ Noelle is an author of the popular garden blog, www.azplantlady.com. She received her B.S. in Plant Biology with a concentration in Urban Horticulture from Arizona State University.
Growing up in Southern California, it wasn’t until she married and moved to Arizona that Noelle began to try her hand at gardening where she inadvertently killed several plants while trying to understand how to grow plants in a hot, arid climate. Undeterred by her early failures, she went to school to get her degree in horticulture. She went to work managing landscapes for golf courses and later worked as a landscape designer working closely with homebuilders.
Noelle helps people and neighborhoods create attractive, low-maintenance landscapes focusing on using beautiful, drought tolerant plants that thrive in arid climates with little fuss. She is also a regular contributor to Houzz.com, a noted speaker, and appears monthly on a local news program focusing on gardening.
Noelle now helps people and communities create attractive, low-maintenance landscapes through helpful advice, focusing on using beautiful, drought tolerant plants that thrive in hot, arid climates with little fuss. Freelance writing and speaking to groups about gardening keep her busy as well. When she is not writing or helping other people with their gardens, you can find her “playing” outside” – growing fruits, vegetables, planting flowering shrubs and maybe a cactus or two.
Current Projects:
1. Provide guidance, educations seminars for the first certified ‘Sustainable Community’ by Audubon International, west of the Mississippi.
2. Writes articles for the water-saving campaign, ‘Water Use It Wisely’ focusing on native as well as adapted drought tolerant plants.
3. Teach homeowners and communities how to create gardens that thrive in arid climates using drought-tolerant plants.
4. Making the most of a year-round growing season by educating others how to grow and preserve fruits and vegetables.
