I live in an area which gets lots of snow. Should I be removing it off the trees and shrubs?—Art in Minnesota
The short answer is no. You’ll probably do more damage to the plant than the ice and snow.
On rare occasions I’ve been known to shake off a few branches on leggy evergreen shrubs like rhododendrons, but only as a last resort.
Usually nature will take its course, trees and shrubs are pretty resilient and will be OK even when covered with a thick layer of ice and snow.
